Session - Operator Experiences - Current Practices We have learned that each operator who subsidizes devices has developed their own unique set of procedures and policies to work with their handset/device OEMs to have these OEMs deliver the best possible quality device at lab entry. As a result, each operator has experienced their own degrees of success. This session is designed to get a top level view of how a few operators have organized their Device OEM, Hardware and Software Supply Chain relationships. We will learn from these various operator procedures and formulate a valuable, industry-wide best practices process - to speed time-to-market and reduce costs for all. Some questions we want to address are:
|
Device Return Rate and Quality Management Director of Device Quality/Process Orange-FT Group
Failure Analysis

Senior Manager T-Mobile US

Session - Device OEM Experiences
We have learned that the each operator has their own set of requirements for the OEMs "first articles" prior to lab entry.
OEMs have to prove they have met these requirements via reporting before first article appears in the operator's lab.
Today, when the first article is delivered to the operator's lab, results vary significantly -- anywhere from 90 to 1000+ defects can be found.
This session is designed to get the views of the OEMs on how the hardware and software development quality can be improved with the ecosystem and the application developer's cycle to improve quality and shorten time-to-market.
Some questions we want to address are:
|
No Trouble Found! Director of Quality Research in Motion
Quality vs Reliability Tradeoffs of Handset Design Sr. Executive V.P LG Electronics
|
5:20 PM |
Session - reverse logistics (field return testing procedures)
We have learned that each operator has implemented a different "field return" process after a device is returned by the consumer to the retail store.
Some operators take these returned devices and bring them back to an operator owned and run center for "triage testing".
Some operators send the phone to a center which is owned and run by a 3rd party testing service.
Some operators use various combinations of the above.
