Working Group Background:

Next generation wireless Basestation equipment will provide dramatic reduction, both CAPEX and OPEX, for network Operators while increasing data rates to support broadband services demanded by subscribers.

This working group, created in December 2008 in response to a Carrier request, was established to overcome one of the major inhibitors preventing the deployment of this next generation equipment: concerns about reliability.

Working Group Meeting Goals:

The Goals of IWPC Tower Top Electronics Reliability Working Group (TTER) Meeting is to bring together wireless industry experts to continue the process of creating reference guides, including:

  • An objective, commercial, reliability test protocol; specifically designed for “electronics up the mast.”

  • A common, relevant library of prediction tools that correlate to industry experienced failure rates.

  • A process for collection and sharing of industry data to help “raise the bar” on the reliability of Tower Top Electronics experienced by network operators.

  • An industry-wide Installation Best Practices document designed to assist in ensuring the quality and reliability of Cell Site installations

  • An quantitative assessment of Lightning events on Cell Site installations and the mitigation of the resulting disturbances.

  • AND – move the IWPC’s Tower Top Electronics Reliability (TTER) Working Group activities forward.

PLUS - The other Major Goal of this Working Group Meeting is to develop the agenda for the September Workshop on Tower Top Electronics Reliability, Hosted by Verizon Wireless.
