WORKSHOP BACKGROUND There has been a great amount of interest in Software Defined Radio (SDR) for commercial applications. The US Government is spending up to $25 billion on the US Army JTRS program and the potential for commercial applications of this technology are enormous. The IWPC has had workshops in the past to discuss the application of SDR to cellular base stations. These discussions suggested SDR was not yet sufficiently advanced to satisfy desired requirements for OEMs and Carriers to justify the increased cost and network disruption. Recent advances suggest that the technology has matured to a point where it may be worthwhile reconsidering its’ usage. |
||
WORKSHOP GOAL IWPC and its’ members will explore this technology and applications in real world networks, with input from all levels of the SDR Base Station supply chain. The GOAL of this workshop is to: Give insight and understanding or the role of SDR in modern network topologies and move the process forward. TO ACHIEVE: Supply chain visibility to the needs of operators, OEMs and equipment providers |
