Introduction

During recent years 360° surveillance with radar has been deeply discussed. A high degree of integration, low noise MMICs, and cost reduction has made this goal readily achievable. Driven by the requirements of highly automated driving and NCAP we expect a large increase in the number of sensors used within the next couple of years. These sensors produce a vast amount of raw data of which only a percentage is really used today. Therefore, in this workshop we will explore how the performance of these sensors can be improved towards imaging radar. In fact, the question arises which other systems and applications, i.e. high quality maps, road border detection and parking, can benefit from this data source. New radar applications such as in-car sensing for driver monitoring will also be considered. The increasing number of both sensors and requirements can only be handled if performance can be validated. Since the vast amount of test kilometers is driving up development costs, we will also discuss new validation methods and alternative test environments.

Workshop Goals

  • Explore how the performance of sensors can be improved towards imaging radar
  • Understand how sensor data can be used to benefit other in car systems and applications, i.e. high quality maps, road border detection and parking
  • Consider new radar applications such as in-car sensing for driver monitoring
  • Assess new validation methods and alternative test environments
