Introduction

Will microwave and mmwave be sufficient for Beyond 5G and 6G transport applications? Microwave beyond 10Gbps – what is to be expected, and when, and where (how) – when can we expect to achieve 100Gpbs? Microwave Spectrum – Status and User Scenarios for New Bands (D-Band, W-Band). Advanced in Multi-Band Microwave – Options and Tradeoffs – Long Reach vs. Bandwidth (minimizing deployment costs, ranges up to 10km or even beyond) Options for High Power Solutions in Bands at or above 80GHz and smart infrastructure and installation solutions (how many dBs to gain – at which cost); Operators can use a standardized ONF interface to manage all wireless transport systems. Exploring efforts and ideas for new applications to the open platform ahead of multiple vendors management systems.

Workshop Goals

    • Understanding the capability of microwave/mmWave beyond 5G and for 6G transport applications
    • Exploring innovation to take wireless transport from 10 Mbs to 100 Mbs
    • Assessing microwave spectrum - status and user scenarios for new bands (D-Band, W-Band)
    • Identifying Use Cases for advanced automation in (L2 and MW) management
    • Applying Machine Learning and AI algorithms to SDN application
    • Exploring how to use harmonized SDN interfaces as an open application I/F
    • Assessing ecosystem Development Progress:
      • Will new vendors and academia develop applications for MW management (based on open SDN interface)?
      • Exploring support for the "OpenNess"" Development of App Stores for open management applications
    • Would vendors reprogram NMS systems to Open API?

  • New SDN Ecosystem for Automation of mmWave and microwave management.
  • Operators using a standardized ONF I/F to manage all microwave systems.
  • Vendors: should give up dedicated management systems and bring their efforts and ideas for new applications to the open platform.
  • "Access" framework to state of the art microwave SDN platform - SDN API, SW Platform for application pattern, etc. - is open and documented, and base platform for logging and application registration etc. is free.
  • Open environment is shared by Telefonica that could anytime be used by vendors / operators for implementing new and intelligent management "apps".
