Introduction

4G and 5G cellular networks inside buildings are based on a variety of network architectures and spectrum bands. New business models have also emerged to subsidize deployment of such networks instead of just relying on financing from mobile network operators. Enterprises who have mainly used Wi-Fi as their only private networking technology, now have 3GPP based options to either deploy their own managed private LTE of 5G networks using lightly licensed (rest of the world) or shared licensed (USA) mid-band spectrum or subscribe to a dedicated 5G private network slice from mobile network operators. Utilization of FR2 spectrum bands like mmWave, with careful RF planning for indoor venues, should also be considered where significant capacity enhancement is required.

Workshop Goals

    • Examine new business models to subsidize deployment of inbuilding and private networks.
    • Explore self-managed private LTE or 5G networks using lightly licensed or shared licensed mid-band spectrum
    • Assess dedicated 5G private network slicing for private networks
    • Utilization of FR2 spectrum bands including mmWave and careful RF planning to deliver significant enhancement
