Workshop Background:

We’re faced with the reality that the ability to monetize wireless data services is not keeping up with costs and the exponential growth in wireless data traffic – hence the need to think thru new business models coupled with network, device and service planning.

As the industry moves towards more and more mobile wireless data services, carriers are working to find ways to increase their data services average revenue per user (ARPU). There are many factors impacting these future revenue streams.

One goal of providing a wide variety of seamless data services is the idea of “Always Best Connected Services”. This requirement has a profound impact on future networks and handheld devices.

Workshop Goals:

The goal of this workshop is to bring the entire mobile wireless industry supply chain together to deeply explore the needs and business models of future data services and the impact these future data services have on the . . .

  • Network platforms,

  • Network systems,

  • Handheld and data card devices and sub-systems,

  • Operating systems,

  • Middleware

  • and Applications

. . . for Always Best Connected Services.

What is needed to be developed to support these future needs?

  • What do we ask from operators to really roll-out our services successfully?

  • What are the enablers they need to bring to ease our business and focus on what we do best: highly consumer appealing and entertaining mobile services.

    • - A single billing interface to serve entire operators groups

    • - The possibility to zero rate data intensives service

    • - The possibility to upsell data bundles and add new revenues streams (Data framework)

    • - One unique mark-up language to be used among all operators (no PML, No OML....)

    • - Other enablers like: Access controls, Presence / Identity Management, Messaging, Location, Charging reporting, Advertising

    • - Possibility to deliver content with open API and CO-IN....

    • - Enabling Off-deck ring back tones services....

    • - Having a proper framework to give visibility of our services into their deck (widgets, etc...)

    • - Enabling multiple clients apps to be downloaded by the user
